Cellulose Ether Properties for Mixed Aggregate Masonry Mortar

Cellulose Ether Properties for Mixed Aggregate Masonry Mortar

With the development of dry-mixed mortar industry, high-quality sand resources are increasingly scarce,so it’s very meaningful to find resources that can replace artificial sand and river sand in dry-mixed mortar.

In the production of ordinary dry-mixed mortar, sand and stone are the most important and most widely used raw materials, which have a great impact on the preparation and performance of mortar.

The main results are as follows:

(1) Cellulose ether has a good effect on improving the consistency loss of two kinds of masonry mortar.
(2) Water retention increases with the increase of cellulose ether content, when the ratio of cellulose ether is the same, the water retention of iron tailings and artificial sand mixed mortar is higher than that of iron tailings and river sand mixed mortar; under the same water retention ratio, the cellulose ether content of iron tailings and artificial sand mixed aggregate mortar is slightly lower than that of iron tailings and river sand mixed aggregate mortar.
(3) With the increase of cellulose ether content, the apparent density of mixed aggregate mortar decreases, while the setting time increases. Cellulose ether has air entraining and retarding effect in masonry mortar.Under the condition of the same amount of cellulose ether, the apparent density of iron tailings and artificial sand mixed aggregate mortar is higher than that of iron tailings and river sand mixed aggregate mortar.
(4) The strength of mixed aggregate mortar decreases with the increase of cellulose ether content and the strength of mortar prepared by the mixture of iron tailings sand and artificial sand is much higher than that of

the mixture of iron tailings sand and river sand which shows that the water requirement of mortar prepared by the mixture of iron tailings sand and artificial sand is low which makes the hardened structure of mortar more compact.
