Advantages of HPMC in Construction Materials
December 26th 2024Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether made from natural polymer material cellulose through a series of chemical processing. They are an odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic white powder that swells in cold water into a clear or slightly turbid colloidal solution. It has the characteristics of thickening, bonding, dispersion, emulsification, film formation, suspension, adsorption, gelation, surface properties, moisture retention, and protective colloid. Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and methyl cellulose can be used in building materials, paint industry, synthetic resin, ceramic industry, medicine, food, textile, agriculture, daily chemical, and other industries.
The main application of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose HPMC in building materials:
1. Cement-based plaster
①Improve the uniformity, make the plaster easier to be applied on the trowel, and at the same time improve the anti-sagging property, enhance the fluidity and pumpability, and improve the work efficiency.
②High water retention, prolong the storage time of the mortar, improve work efficiency, and facilitate the hydration and solidification of the mortar to produce high mechanical strength.
③Control the introduction of air to eliminate cracks on the coating surface and form an ideally smooth surface.

2. Gypsum-based plaster and gypsum products

5. Tile adhesive
