Functions of HPMC in Mortar
January 23rd 2025HPMC belongs to the family of cellulose ethers, derived from natural cellulose through a series of chemical modifications. Its chemical structure comprises repeating units of glucose molecules substituted with methyl and hydroxypropyl groups. The degree of substitution (DS) and the molar substitution (MS) determine the properties of HPMC, including viscosity, solubility, and thermal stability. The presence of hydroxypropyl and methyl groups imparts both hydrophilic and hydrophobic characteristics to HPMC, making it soluble in water while exhibiting surface-active properties.
